Population Projections 2020-2040

The growth of the population of Aruba is primarily determined by the number of persons migrating to Aruba minus the number of persons leaving the country. However, to model the future growth of the population, both the natural growth (number of births minus number of deaths) and the net migration (number of immigrants minus number of emigrants) must be taken in to account.

To project the population that would be living in Aruba up to the year 2040, a new projection model was developed in cooperation with the Statistics Netherlands, where the fertility and mortality schedules and the migration patterns of Aruban-born and foreign-born individuals in the last 20 years were considered.

According to the new projection model, in 2040, the population of Aruba would consist of 116.918 individuals (55,051 males and 61,867 females), of which 44.5% will be foreign-born. Significant changes in fertility and mortality schedules as well as in the migration patterns of Aruban-born and foreign-born individuals could impact the current projections, and would entail a revision of the current projection.
