Leaving Aruba

In the last 50 years, a yearly average of 2,616 persons left Aruba. As is the case with immigration, emigration is also related to the economic situation of Aruba and that of the region.

In the last 10 years, a yearly average of 2,991 persons emigrated to other countries, with a small peak in 2020, when 3,463 persons or 32 persons per 1,000 population left the island.

In 2023, a total of 2,760 persons de-registered at the Civil Registry and Population Office, 219 persons (7.4%) less than the average number of immigrants who de-registered during the previous 10 years.

Up to the third  QTR of 2023, 2,260 persons de-registered.

The majority of emigrants are born in Aruba or the former Netherlands Antilles. In 2023, they accounted for 56.4% of all de-registrations. Emigrants born in the Netherlands were the second major group of emigrants. In 2023, they represented 15.2% of the total number of emigrants. Persons born in Colombia, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic represented the other largest groups of emigrants, representing respectively 9.1%, 4.1%, and 4.3% of all emigrants.
