The impact of aging on mortality
Total annual deaths rose from an average of 719 deaths during 2015-2019 to 840 in 2024 and 833 in 2025. This upward shift is primarily driven by the increasing proportion of the population aged 65 years and older. By the end of 2025, 19.6 percent of the population was 65 years or older compared to 12.5 percent a decade ago in 2015. The concentration of mortality follows this ageing trend, as in 2015 people aged 65 years accounted for about 71 percent of all registered deaths. In 2025 their proportion increase to more than 80 percent of all registered deaths.
The Crude Death Rate (CDR) increased from 6.4 in 2015 to 7.6 per 1,000 population in 2025.
