Five decades of data on live births on Aruba
In the last 5 decades, periods of a surge in births have been followed by periods of decline. Since 2018, the declining number of births has been particularly pronounced and bears some resemblance to the declining trend seen in the 1970’s and mid 1980’s. However, the birth rate, which is the number of births per 1,000 population, has never been as low as it was in 2022.

In 2021, a total of 1.019 children were born, 525 boys and 494 girls. By the end of 2022, only 915 children were born (479 boys and 436 girls), 104 less than in 2021.
In the second quarter of 2023, 346 babies were born (189 boys and 157 girls).
In the last 10 years, the mean age of mothers increased from 27.6 years in 2013 to 29.4 years in 2022. On the other hand, the percentage of children born to teenage mothers declined from 10.7% of the total number of births in 2013 to 3.6% of the total number of births in 2022. Of these teenage mothers, over 60% are 18 and 19-year-olds.
