Crime statistics are essential for decision making by all actors in the criminal justice system and are the basis to be able to make factual statements about crime rates in Aruba and the safety of its citizens. In addition, crime statistics can help to strengthen and enhance Aruba as a safe haven for tourists, safeguarding the tourism driven economy. Obtaining and developing crime and criminal justice statistics in Aruba is accompanied by challenges and opportunities. In this paper, these challenges and opportunities are discussed.
