Five decades of data on live births on Aruba
In the last 5 decades, periods of a surge in births have been followed by periods of decline. Since 2018, the declining number of births has been particularly pronounced and bears some resemblance to the declining trend seen in the 1970’s and mid 1980’s. However, the birth rate, which is the number of births per 1,000 population, has never been as low as it was in 2023.

In 2022, a total of 915 children were born, 479 boys and 436 girls. By the end of 2023, only 856 children were born (456 boys and 400 girls), 59 less than in 2022. In the first quarter of 2024, 162 babies were born (81 boys and 81 girls).
In the last 10 years, the mean age of mothers increased from 27.8 years in 2014 to 29.1 years in 2023. On the other hand, the percentage of children born to teenage mothers declined from 9.8% of the total number of births in 2014 to 5.1% of the total number of births in 2023. Of these teenage mothers, over 77% were 18 and 19-year-olds
